$1.00 for 12oz of Water
I can see it now... Picture this in Coca-Cola or Pepsi. They had a young executive who was sitting in front of a bunch of seasoned executives. The young executive sat across the table and said. "I have an idea! Let's sell bottled water and label it with names that remind people of things clean like Clear Blue Sky. We can sell it for more than we sell cola." The seasoned executives looked across the table and thought for a nanosecond and laughed under their breadth. Then they thought for a minute and said Ok. We will think about it. 15 years later it was heard "If they pay 1 dollar for 12oz of water then surely they will pay half of 10 dollars for a gallon of gas." |

Gas prices and big oil suck - but what should gas really cost?
crude oil recently hit $70US a barrel ( 42 gallons) - this works out to $1.66/gallon for crude - this price is at the WELL HEAD - the oil must be transported to the refiner - the logistics are beyond belief- double hulled tankers - special pipelines - CDL's for tanker drivers - spills require EXPENSIVE REMEDIATION by enviornmental contractors. refining oil requires it to be heated to 6 or 700 degrees- for every 100 barrels processed they burn the equivalent of at least 6 to 8 barrels to attain process temperatures - then the finished products have the same problems relating to transporting them - the consumer then pays about double the raw material cost for the finished product. this is a bargain compared to the markups on other consumer products - like water - or my favorite - stuffing mix - 10 cents worth of bread crumbs in a 10 cent package that we willingly pay a couple of bucks for. with the increasing demand for oil by developing countries like china and india we will most likely see much higher prices for crude - that is until the oil runs out ( and it WILL)- some experts predict that will happen in 40 years or so - by that time we will have alternate fuel sources - and life will go on. |

$1.00 for 12oz of Water
I live in the UK - here we are currently paying 98pence for a litre of unleaded... that works out at £4.80 a gallon, or about $9. And that's why very few of us drive V8 engined pick-up's. If you think "gas" is expensive in the US now... just wait...

In Finland we pay 1,40 - 1,50 euro / liter. That is $6,5 - $7,00 / US gallon. Gasoline in US is cheap. Almost free |

The gas prices are backing down a bit around here - I see reg for under $2 and prem for $2.30. |

You Need to get your brain checked...we will not have alternate fuel sources in forty years any anybody can see that especially those of us that manufacture the equipment for processing the (alternate fuel). BIG OIL will do anything to keep from going out of business including controling the (alternate fuel) prices. I know this because if the y are willing to look for a little man in india with a car that can do 100+ miles per gallon on intake and cylinder modifications alone... meaning no electrical boost or hybrid technology, and pay him off to keep his mouth shut about his discovery, then they will never ever have cheaper prices on any type of fuel (alternate) or not. Also forty years just isn't enough time to produce equipment to produce a fuel that cost 10 cents less than regular gas and burns on average 10% faster than gas. The country of america is not the first country to expirience this (fuel) shortage and try looking for reasonable alternate fuels sources. What makes you think America my country I love is going to find an answer for this dilema. in case you haven't noticed, many, many studies have shown this country to be "stupid." Look at our president, who by the way has his fingers, hands,... hell his whole body cover in oil and is now rich, just wait to see who contributes a great deal of money the he made, to the republican party this next election. the world may not end becase of gas prices, but it sure as hell ain't gonna get any better, especially not when (BIG OIL) has the president under its thumb to. Pull your head out of your ass America and take a deep breath of the sweet sooty polluted air. |

Jon - you need to pull your head out of the toilet - open your eyes and look around - all kinds of research and development is going on right now to develop viable alternate energy sources. And yes the oil companies will be the energy companies of the future - SO WHAT ! Just remember that 75 years ago commercial air flights were unheard of and now we have thousands of them each day. Man has advanced - as far as technology goes - further in the last 100 years than in all of recorded history before that . We WILL have alternate clean burning ( or clean to produce ) fuels before the oil runs out ................ and as far as the little guy in India goes you would have to be a real conspiracy buff to believe that. No modern car that weighs 3500 to 4000 lbs and utilizes an internal combustion engine will EVER attain that kind of mpgs - unless we are able to rewrite a few of the LAWS OF THERMODYNAMICS - a modern engine typically does not even reach an efficiency of 20% - most all of the energy in a gallon of gas goes into the surrounding air as heat. The guy in India is just another urban legend that people who feed into the conspiracy crap choose to believe because it PROVES their point ... and I'll just bet that he uses a CARBURETOR and not one of those newfangled EFI units. So ... until somebody out there developes an engine that does not heat up and puts all of the energy in a gallon of gas into turning the drive wheels this is simply not going to happen. If this little guy in India actually exists ( he DOES NOT) why would he sell out to the BIG OIL companies and not take his "discovery" to the AUTO companies who would pick up that ball and run with it. They then would be able to produce the behemoths they are so fond of in record numbers and not have to worry about the CAFE standards. You can believe whatever you like - this is America - but you are DEAD WRONG. Most of us who are employed in the energy business and read the trade publications laugh at beliefs such as yours. Ed |
